How Excursionist Built a Nearshore Team in Colombia for Its 24/7 Luxury Concierge Service

Destination management company Excursionist turned a 24/7 luxury service that can't be automated into a nearshore team in Colombia built on travel expertise. Booth found the talent and carried the hiring, compliance, and care, so Excursionist could restructure around specialized roles and keep its focus on clients.

About Excursionist: A luxury destination management company founded in 2010 and headquartered in Miami, designing and delivering exceptional travel experiences across the United States, Canada, and the Caribbean around each client's passions.

Industry: Destination Management

Headquarters: Miami, Florida

Partner since: 2024

Challenge: Find people with travel industry experience, strong English, and a passion for service to support a 24/7 luxury travel operation, with one partner to handle employment and the work on the ground in Colombia.

Solution: Talent acquisition and employment through Booth, built around the experience, English, and service mindset each role requires. Booth sourced, screened, and shortlisted candidates, then handled employment, payroll, compliance, and employee care in Colombia while Excursionist directed the work.

Results: A team that now represents about a third of Excursionist's staff, with more specialized roles across travel services, administration, and accounting, giving Excursionist more time to focus on clients and training.

"Just the fact that I don't have to worry about hiring more people, that I can just say, 'Hey, can you hire this person?' and you bring them in, is perfect. You guys are the human resources department that I don't have here."

Challenge

For Excursionist, luxury travel is personal. The Miami-based destination management company plans and supports trips for high-end travelers across the United States, Canada, and the Caribbean, with a 24/7 concierge team ready to step in when plans change. When a storm hits Canada, a client needs different transportation, or a traveler wants an experience that doesn't exist online, the team figures it out.

"Everything that we do is pretty customized for the client. It has a lot of expertise, it has a lot of consultative elements. We try to get the client experience that they have never had."

That makes expertise and service central to the business. As Excursionist grew, it needed to add people across travel services, administration, and back-office work while keeping the level of service its clients expect. The right people needed travel industry experience, strong English, and a genuine passion for creating memorable experiences, whatever their role.

Colombia was a natural place to look. Adriana Matiz, VP of Administration and Finance, knew the talent market firsthand, and the time zone sits close to Miami's. What Excursionist didn't want was to open its own company there and take on the accounting, monthly filings, insurance, pensions, and vacations that come with it. It needed one partner to handle the employment and everything on the ground.

"Especially in the travel industry, that is really intense; it's 24/7. We were looking for people that are passionate about that."

Solution

Excursionist found Booth through its own research and came with detailed questions about compliance and taxes in Colombia. Booth answered each one clearly and explained how the process worked, giving Excursionist a clear way to start. The partnership began in November 2024 with two people in one role, then expanded into roles across travel services, administration, and accounting.

Booth brought the infrastructure to support the team:

  • Hiring built for a niche industry: A structured interview and screening process that finds people with travel industry experience, strong English, and a passion for service.

  • Employment handled locally: Booth employs the team in Colombia and takes care of payroll, taxes, insurance, pensions, monthly requirements, and other local employment obligations.

  • Transparent pricing: A one-time recruitment fee and a set fee per person, with costs specified in the contract and approved by Excursionist upfront.

  • Fair pay and benefits: Booth supports Excursionist's commitment to paying team members well, with good salaries and benefits in their home market.

  • Care for a remote team: Booth keeps the team connected through activities and personal support, alongside the training and team culture Excursionist provides.

"You can find talent in many places, but the interview process and the screening process are what I think have made you successful in finding talent for us, because sometimes we have positions that are really difficult; it takes time, and it has to take 3-4 months to look for the real people that can work for us, so it's not easy, but you guys take the time to do that."

Results

Excursionist started by testing a new way to add capacity to its 24/7 operation. As of February 2026, that pilot had become a team of 11 across travel services, administration, and accounting, with more roles still being added.

The partnership has delivered:

  • Focused departments. Excursionist restructured its departments so each person can focus on one area of the business, where one person previously covered two or three jobs.

  • More people behind the 24/7 operation. Added capacity in client-facing travel services and the back office, while Excursionist kept its Miami-based staff in place.

  • Travel expertise at every level. Almost all of the team brings travel industry experience. Several worked in the industry abroad before returning to Colombia, and their spoken and written English is strong.

  • More time for the work that matters. Excursionist puts its own time into training people and running the business rather than finding talent or overseeing a separate operation in Colombia.

"Booth has allowed us to increase our team. We have changed our structure immensely inside the company. Before, one person was doing two or three jobs; now we've been able to restructure departments and have more specialized jobs because of Booth."

Expert talent, one time zone away

Excursionist needed people who could deliver luxury service around the clock, with the travel knowledge and English their clients expect. It found them in Colombia, working nearly the same hours as its Miami team, with Booth carrying everything on the ground. For a 24/7 operation, that pairing of expertise and timing is what lets a nearshore team work in step with the business.

"You can have good talent everywhere. You just need to find it, and you guys are there for that."
